Fehr Graham, a leading Midwest engineering and environmental firm, is proud to announce the promotion of Derek Thompson, PE, to West Region Business Unit Leader.
Reporting to Fehr Graham President Kyle Saunders, Business Unit Leaders are new positions at the firm. The role requires dedicated attention to developing growth strategies and centralizing leadership across the firm. Thompson is directing the West Region, which consists of the firm's Monroe, Wisconsin, Freeport, Illinois, and Cedar Rapids, Manchester and West Union, Iowa, offices.
"I'm excited to be more connected to my colleagues and their projects across our region," Thompson said. "This new regional structure helps us operate as one team, and I'm looking forward to meeting more staff, getting to know new clients and helping shape how the offices support one another. I plan to lead by listening first, then focusing on practical changes that help the team keep momentum."
Thompson will lead Branch Managers, Discipline Leads and other staff to execute projects, build teams and grow business opportunities.

Thompson joined Fehr Graham in 2012 and was promoted to Branch Manager in 2022. He earned a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering with a Transportation emphasis from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. He also holds several certifications with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation and Illinois Department of Transportation. Thompson lives in Monroe, Wisconsin, with his wife, Angel, and their four children.
