The City of Freeport, Illinois, will receive $31 million in state and federal funding to improve drinking water capacity and safety. Funding from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency's Emerging Contaminants grant and forgivable loans will cover the building of Well 12, a well house treatment facility, and infrastructure distribution installations to the well, which will be built at the south entrance of Krape Park on Forest Road.
Well 12 is part of a continued effort to replace aging infrastructure and improve water quality in the City.
Fehr Graham, which serves as City Engineer, helped Freeport apply for the grants and loans.
Construction is expected to be completed by late 2027.
