Engineer Cameron Johns works on water projects, more in hometown of Villa Grove, Illinois
One of the advantages of an engineering career is getting the chance to improve communities. It’s even better when you get the opportunity to improve your hometown. For Fehr Graham Engineer Cameron Johns, a Villa Grove, Illinois, native, working on projects in his hometown brought him full circle.
While attending the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he connected with our team and landed an internship with us. After he graduated this year, he came on board full-time and is now leading the demolition plans for the former Villa Grove Water Treatment Plant. That includes preparing AutoCAD drawings for excavators, giving instructions to properly dismantle specific plant parts and helping clear wells, which extend underground.
There are countless benefits that come with being an engineer. Enhancing the community that raised you happens to be at the top of the list for Cameron.
"When you're a kid, you never expect that one day you'll be the one making huge changes and decisions in your community," Cameron said. "It's cool to see the Village grow and witness all the stages. I'm thankful that my job gives me that opportunity."
