Matt Johnson of Fehr Graham and Rick Manner with the Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District will present at this year’s Water Environment Federation’s Annual Technical Exhibition and Conference.
The conference, Oct. 2-4 in Chicago, is the largest of its kind offering water quality professionals water quality education and training, and providing global business opportunities, attracting exhibitors and visitors from all over the world.
Johnson, a professional engineer and branch manager of Fehr Graham’s Champaign office, and Manner, executive director of the Urbana & Champaign Sanitary District, will discuss at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 3 how they designed a new pump station at Scott Park in Champaign.
The pump station was designed to work in conjunction with three major interceptors to collect and divert sanitary flows during heavy rainfall. A force main pipe through campus connects to a new gravity interceptor that drains to the South First Street pump station which connects to the Southwest Wastewater Treatment Plant 5 miles away.
The project won a 2017 ACEC-Illinois Engineering Excellence Special Achievement Award because it integrated an adaptable-capacity collection infrastructure system to ensure long-term growth.
