In 2017, Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois, completed renovations to Classroom Building 1 (CL1). To get to the new building, many students were backtracking to the Student Center to cross the creek at the pedestrian bridge. Others crossed the creek at a shallow gravel path closer to the new building. To provide better access to this renovated building, Rock Valley College officials hired Fehr Graham to design another pedestrian bridge across Spring Creek near CL1.

Our team designed this bridge to match the style of the other pedestrian bridges on campus. Fehr Graham created several different options for the façade of the bridge wingwalls and abutments. A natural stone façade for the proposed bridge was chosen by the College to match the nearby bridges and buildings. The new bridge and lighting will improve connectivity and increase student safety.

The bridge was built in the summer and completed in time for the start of the fall 2018 term.
