Fehr Graham works with Congressman Eric Sorensen to secure funding for Freeport and Lanark water infrastructure
Fehr Graham, a leading engineering and environmental firm, worked with U.S. Rep. Eric Sorensen (IL-17) to secure approximately $1.9 million in funding for water infrastructure improvement projects in Freeport and Lanark, Illinois.
Freeport received $959,752, which will be used to replace contaminated wells, enhancing the City's water supply and ensuring clean drinking water for its residents. Freeport Mayor Jodi Miller praised Sorensen for his support for local communities.
"The City of Freeport is very grateful for Congressman Sorensen's efforts in the FY24 appropriations for local communities in his district," Miller said. "The nearly $1 million that Freeport will receive will definitely stretch our dollars in this $14 million project for the new Well and Well House No. 12, which will continue to provide safe and clean drinking water to all of our residents. The City of Freeport looks forward to continuing working closely with our congressman and Fehr Graham for more infrastructure projects."
Lanark also secured $959,752, which will be used to address critical issues with water mains that frequently break and have low pressure. This funding is essential for Lanark residents to provide reliable water service. Lanark Mayor Mark Macomber said he is grateful for the significant infrastructure funding, which marks a historical grant for the City.

Congressman Sorensen emphasized the importance of supporting sustainable communities for future generations.
"One of the ways I can make sure that happens is by bringing tax dollars back home to support middle-class families," Sorensen said. "By working across the aisle, I was able to secure over $2.8 million for northern Illinois to fund our police, repair broken bridges to increase safety and help ensure that when you turn on the faucet, you have access to clean drinking water. I am grateful to our local partners who helped advocate for these investments that will have a positive impact on the lives of so many of our neighbors."
