Spring Lake Marina and Aquatic Park is a recreational summertime destination in Rochelle, Illinois, featuring a spring-fed lake, outdoor Olympic length pool and playground. The park, built in the 1980s, was falling into disrepair and in need of a major overhaul to modernize the pool facility and address code requirements. The park district hired Fehr Graham to design a deck and stairs to access the pool bathhouse.

Our team of landscape architects and structural engineers evaluated the deck structure and documented footing locations to reuse as much of the structure in the design to save money. Our engineers and landscape architects worked together to bring the park up to Americans with Disabilities Act standards while providing a contemporary look. The wood posts, stainless cable railing and recycled composite decking provided a contemporary look to complement the structure.

Our team documented the deck's structure and foundation, but because it is covered by the water from the lake, the construction team had to remove the water from the area surrounding the deck.

Renovations were finished and the park opened in June 2018.
