Fehr Graham helps Belle Plaine restore wetlands and improve water quality

The City of Belle Plaine, Iowa, needed a practical, cost-effective solution to improve water quality and protect access to clean drinking water. The City partnered with Fehr Graham to restore a wetland near its municipal wellfield, demonstrating how wetland restoration can improve water quality and protect critical community resources.

Located near the City's wells, the restored wetland will help manage and treat stormwater runoff before it reaches Salt Creek and the Iowa River. The project is part of the City's broader water infrastructure planning efforts to support long-term system improvements and community needs.

Fehr Graham provided design, engineering, surveying and construction observation services on the project. Our team also supported the City in meeting funding requirements through design and documentation assistance.

Fehr Graham continues to support the City with engineering and capital improvement initiatives as Belle Plaine advances its comprehensive water improvement plan.

This project was featured in a short video produced by the Iowa Environmental Council.
