Narendra Patel earns Portfolio Management Professional certification

Fehr Graham, a leading Midwest engineering and environmental firm, announced that Senior Project Manager Narendra Patel, PE, PMP, F. ASCE earned the Portfolio Management Professional (PfMP) credentials from the Project Management Institute (PMI).

The PfMP is PMI's highest level of credential and certification, designed for senior executives, directors and those in leadership positions who manage a portfolio of programs, projects, and operations. The PfMP recognizes skill and expertise in aligning work with organizational strategy, balancing competing demands, overseeing portfolio performance and directing resources toward the work that creates the most value for clients and organizations.

"Individual projects matter, but clients also need a clear view of how those projects align across programs and the broader portfolio," Patel said. "I'm proud to join the elite pool of the PfMP-certified professionals, and reinforce my ability to help organizations prioritize investments, balance resources and advance the work that delivers the greatest long-term value for their communities."

To earn the certification, candidates must hold the PMP designation, document their professional background and pass a review by PMI's panel of practicing portfolio management experts. They must also complete a four-hour written exam covering strategic alignment, governance, portfolio performance, communication management and risk management.

Patel earned his Project Management Professional (PMP) certification from PMI in 2022, marking another important step in his commitment to project, program, and portfolio leadership.

"Naren has always paired strong technical expertise with a clear understanding of the larger portfolio-level goals behind each program and project," said Fehr Graham Branch Manager Matt Johnson, PE, SE. "What sets Naren apart is his ability to see the entire picture -- understanding not only the firm's vision, but also our clients' long-term goals, and how to turn that vision into practical programs and projects. We are fortunate to have someone with his depth of experience, strategic perspective and passion for serving communities."

Patel joined Fehr Graham in 2016 with two decades of experience as a licensed professional engineer and became a Senior Project Manager in 2023. He is a member of the Project Management Institute, Illinois Society of Professional Engineers, Illinois Association of Wastewater Agencies, Central Illinois Municipal Officials Association, and the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Patel earned a master's degree in civil and environmental engineering from Bradley University in Peoria. He also earned a master's degree in environmental engineering and a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara, India.
