The Rockford Chamber of Commerce named Mick Gronewold, Fehr Graham's Board Chairman and one of the firm's owners, one of its 2018 People You Should Know.

He was one of 20 recognized during a special reception Nov. 1 at the Tebala Event Center in Rockford. Rockford City Administrator Todd Cagnoni nominated Gronewold for the honor. People You Should Know started in 2011, and the program has honored 121 leaders since.

This latest group features eight women and 12 men representing a variety of industries, including health care, government, nonprofits, finance, education, manufacturing and professional services. The honorees are leaders who positively affect the local business community.

Gronewold started with Fehr Graham in 1993 and quickly rose the ranks, becoming an owner in 2000. Today, he is one of five owners of the engineering and environmental firm with 10 offices, including one in Rockford. He is active in the community, serving on the Rockford Area Economic Development Corp. Board of Directors. He enjoys running his family farm in Forreston and spending time with his wife Kate and three adult children, Seth, Megan and Elisabeth.

Gronewold said he hopes his work in the Rockford area helps build a healthy community that provides opportunities for young people.

"I would like my kids to have great careers and lifestyles here instead of thinking they have to move to either coast to have that," Gronewold said. "I want them to choose to raise their families here. I want to one day be able to pick my grandchildren up after school, not get on a plane to see them."
